I saw this commercial the other day and loved it! Something about the music and images are so inspiring:

Maine Lighthouses
October 18, 2012, we took a drive up the Maine coast to see lighthouses....another of the many things I've always wanted to do....see light houses in Maine....(and Oregon, eventually).
We had such fun seeing the beauty of the ocean on the eastern coast and admiring the famous lighthouses. We had so much fun driving slowly though small towns...and do you know what we found? These towns had Halloween displays to advertise their businesses in ways I'd never seen before. It was crazy! And fun!

It was a rough ocean day...the waves were roughly slamming the rocks....but I waited patiently for the right kind of wave to capture by camera:
Although we saw other lighthouses, the two I loved most preciously, was the Portland Head Lighthouse:
We drove a bit of distance to find the Nubble Lighthouse, which was sitting lonely on a little island. We arrived just as the sun was setting (almost arrived too late). The sunset was amazing!!!!
I chuckled because there was several other photographers there for the same photos that we were hoping to take...all clamoring over rocks with spray painted, 'keep out, Private'
I looked out and saw the photographers, silhouetted, waiting for the perfect photo opportunity. I loved what I saw.
And, of course, I was waiting for my perfect photo, too...I took a couple:
Maine is definitely worth the time and the drive to visit the beautiful sites....I hope to take more time next time.
Salem & Gloucester
October 17, we traveled to Salem in the morning. As a child I was fascinated by the history found here. I was greatly saddened by the stories I'd read. I never understood how easily adults could believe the words of young teenagers without thinking twice about what was suggested about the character of great human beings....all out of sheer fear.
All my life I wanted to come to Salem and honor those who died because they would not lie and dishonor themselves or their own integrity by simply saying they were a witch and worshiped the devil.
When we arrived to Salem I was again disappointed to discover the commercialism found in the town. People I know had suggested I would find a "bad feeling" when I arrived. I did not find such a feeling. I found a town ... a tourist town, with little shops, cobble stone streets. There were actresses and actors selling tickets to the various shows and tours; none of which captured my attention enough.
I searched out the main museum, eager to see some artifacts and hear some of the tales, but found the cost to be ridiculous and not worth the tour (from what friends had said). So we searched out what I really wanted to see: the memorial in honor of the lives lost. This was where they were honored:

Each tablet has a name of one of the individuals that were killed. We walked around and read each name and how they each died. We found on one tablet this touching letter:
After Salem, we traveled to Gloucester, saw the most beautiful vacation homes (EVER!) and watched the sunset and captured some beautiful images of fishing boats and my sister (thanks, Golden Hour!)....my favorites, for sure:

Concord and Autumn Leaves
On a rainy day (incidentally) we went in search of the famous autumn leaves to be found in Massachusetts. We found our bridges and leaves and other signs of autumn. The rain made for a less than perfect adventure but we had fun searching the country side.
We found a stand selling fruits and vegetables and purchased a "3-mile high apple pie" and cheese and apple cider. We turned in a little early and hoped to take a nice warm shower and were frustrated and, I venture to say, even irritated, to find cold water for a 2nd day in the house. No warm water. Grrrrrrr.
We sat down at the table and ate sandwiches and delicious apple cider.
Here are the photos I like that day:
